Google maps
A colleague has just told me something so truly amazing that I feel the need to post it here in case other people don’t know about it
Google have developed a free maps application which is available to download onto your mobile phone. With your phone browser, go to http://www.google.co.uk/xhtml and click on “download google maps” beneath the search box in order to be guided throught the installation process. It takes approximately two minutes to download and then, hey presto, you now have the world’s most amazing application on your mobile
If you type in your location, you have access to a high quality map which allows you to zoom to the same standard as on the internet. You can also opt to change it to satellite view, and as if that weren’t enough, if you enter two points it will plan you a route inbetween them
It then provides you with step-by-step directions but, better than when you’ve printed them off the net, you can flick backwards and forwards between them and the map, on which your route is highlighted in a rather cool shade of purple.
Let’s just say, if I’d had this at the weekend we wouldn’t have got lost as many times as we did
A word of warning though: be careful if you’re not on an unlimited data plan, because I think this could end up costing a fortune otherwise.
