It was our work Christmas party on Friday night. I’m not a big one for parties, especially work parties, and so I would say that I survived it rather than enjoyed it. We had our departmental Christmas lunch during the day time which was relatively civilised, and I did have a few glasses of wine but stopped as soon as I started feeling them take effect, because I don’t really like drinking when I’m not around Babel. I didn’t stay for long at the actual evening party because it was in a rather dodgy part of town, and the friend I was with wasn’t staying long either. I’m glad, because it sounds like it was total carnage. There are some amusing photos on Facebook this morning of a mutual friend of mine and Babel’s without his shirt on, but the biggest story currently doing the gossip rounds is that one of the guys I am working with onsite this week, pulled an 18 year old PA from the Transaction Support department

This in itself is not terribly interesting news, as I have never met the girl in question and didn’t even know of her existence. What seems quite shocking about the whole business, however, is that this guy has a very attractive girlfriend who he’s been with for nearly 18 months. I feel very sad for her that the whole audit department knows what her boyfriend got up to on Friday night, and she is totally unaware I’ve only ever met her once, so the feeling bad is mainly theoretical rather than personal, but it just seems so horrible, especially at Christmas, that we all know the guy she’s living with just cheated on her and she doesn’t. He does appear to regret it this morning, but when I asked him if he was going to tell her about it, the result was a rather emphatic no. It’s not, of course, any of my business, and so I restrained myself from making the point that if he owned up she might forgive him, whereas if she finds it out a few months down the track from one of his colleagues she probably never will

In any case, it makes me glad that I am going out with Babel, who is far to lazy to bother having sex with anybody else
